The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is named in memory of Oliver McGowan, whose tragic death highlighted the urgent need for better training for health and social care staff in understanding and supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autism.
The Health and Care Act 2022 introduced a legal requirement for regulated service providers to ensure their staff receive training that is appropriate to their role.
Developed to meet this need, the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is the government’s preferred and recommended training for health and social care professionals. It provides essential knowledge, practical understanding, and lived-experience perspectives to improve care quality and outcomes.
